What is BDS?

BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is the undergraduate dental degree in India, regulated by the Dental Council of India (DCI). It qualifies graduates to practice as registered dental surgeons, capable of performing all dental procedures including extractions, root canals, implants, orthodontic treatments, and oral surgeries.
BDS is the only DCI-recognized dental degree for independent dental practice in India. Admission is exclusively through NEET UG as mandated by the Supreme Court of India. The programme is offered at government, private, and deemed university dental colleges across India.
