MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) is the primary undergraduate medical degree in India. The 5.5-year programme includes 4.5 years of academic training across pre-clinical, para-clinical, and clinical subjects, followed by a mandatory 1-year compulsory rotating internship. NEET UG is the only pathway to MBBS admission in all Indian medical colleges, both public and private.

The Supreme Court of India struck down the upper age limit for NEET UG in 2023. There is currently no maximum age restriction for appearing in NEET or applying for MBBS admission.

What is a bond in MBBS government college?

Most government medical colleges require MBBS graduates to serve in rural or government hospitals for 1–2 years after completing their degree. If you break the bond, you must pay a penalty (which can range from ₹5 lakhs to ₹20 lakhs+) as specified in the bond agreement signed during admission.

Can I change my branch from BDS to MBBS during counselling?

Yes, during choice filling you can add both MBBS and BDS options in any order of preference. If allotted MBBS (your first preference), you get MBBS. If your rank is not competitive for MBBS, you may get BDS if you added it as a lower preference.
