India has approximately 1,50,702+ MBBS seats across 984+ government, private, deemed, and central university medical colleges as of 2025–26. This number increases slightly each year as new colleges get NMC approval. The official seat count for each year is published on the MCC website when counselling begins.

What is the All India Quota (AIQ) seat count for MBBS?

AIQ comprises 15% of government medical college MBBS seats, plus 100% seats in AIIMS, JIPMER, ESIC, central and deemed university colleges. The total AIQ MBBS seat count for 2025 was approximately 44,000–45,000 seats (government AIQ + central institutions + deemed universities).

How many BAMS seats are there for 2026?

India has approximately 52,000+ BAMS seats across government, private, and deemed Ayurvedic colleges. BAMS is the most widely available AYUSH course. State-wise distribution varies — Rajasthan, Maharashtra, UP, Karnataka, and Gujarat have the most BAMS seats.

Are new medical colleges being added every year?

Yes. NMC (National Medical Commission) approves new medical colleges each year. The number of MBBS seats has been steadily increasing — from about 60,000 in 2014 to over 1 lakh in 2023. Similarly, new AYUSH colleges are approved by CCIM and DCI/CCH authorities.
